Since its informal start in November 2017, Defend Democracy has become a well-known organisation among transatlantic democracy defenders. We facilitate communities of democracy defenders in several capitals, fight disinformation and our digital campaigns have reached millions of people. We also organise and participate in high-level policy events and webinars, have formal and informal meetings with lawmakers and decision-makers, write opinion articles, are quoted in the media, respond to public consultations, write and co-sign open letters, and advise grass roots, country representatives and international institutions. In short: we inspire and mobilise people, countries and institutions to defend and strengthen democracy. And you can help!

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

1) Be a digital ambassador

With bots and trolls often creating more noise than real people, it is important we all speak up. We must raise our collective voice to defend our democracies against disinformation and dictators. Help Defend Democracy: follow us on social media, share our message, increase our digital reach, and ultimately help us recruit more citizens to join us in defending and strengthening democracy.

2) Join a #DemocracyDrinks

Join our monthly informal networking events to meet like-minded citizens and professionals who care about freedom and democracy. #DemocracyDrinks are a great way of making new contacts and catching up with people you know; for testing ideas and planning actions; for moral support and inspiration. Join or help start a #DemocracyDrinks near you!

3) Take action

Advocacy doesn’t only happen in Brussels and Washington. It’s important that your representatives hear from you throughout the year. Defend Democracy lets you take action right from your phone, tablet, or computer. Sign up to our newsletter and follow us on social media to receive updates on actions you can take: posting a tweet, signing a petition, sending an email to your representative, attending a physical or virtual meet-up, and more.
